Massage has an amazing number of benefits to offer both peri-menopausal and menopausal women.
While many consider menopause to be just "another step in life", every woman must cope with its physical and emotional manifestations. It's always somewhat of a mistake to look at massage as an a "indulgence" – not ignoring the fact that massage can certainly feel amazing! Massage has some very important therapeutic value for women going through the various stages menopause.

Newark Therapeutic is in a unique position to support you during this change, listening to you, offering relevant advice and a supportive and nurturing touch. And that's important!

Massage relieves tension, encourages the release of ‘feel-good’ endorphins, alleviates headaches, reduces stress, helps regulate the body’s fluid balance and can re-balances hormone levels.

In addition, it has these additional benefits for peri-menopausal and menopausal women:
  • Increased flexibility
Menopause can impact the body’s range of movements, especially if you suffer from aches and pains. Massage stimulates the natural muscle lubricants in your body, especially those between your connective muscles, and helps everything work more smoothly.
  • Stand straighter
By helping the muscles to relax and loosen up, massage can help ease the aches and pains, improve posture and help you walk taller for longer.
  • Lower blood pressure
Blood pressure can rise in menopausal women, either through the change in hormones or because of a tendency to put on weight during this time. HRT can also have an impact. Research has proven that people receiving Swedish Massage had lower levels of blood pressure.
  • Reduce stress
By helping the body to relax, massage can reduce menopausal stress levels, help stop you worrying and combat stress fatigue.
  • Aid Sleep
Research has also proved that regular massage therapy can help sleep-related symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause.
  • Fresher-looking skin
Diminishing oestrogen levels have a huge impact on the skin, including making skin drier and itchier. Massage oils can really help your skin to look and feel better.

Which treatments are recommended?
We particularly recommend Swedish De-Stresser Massage which combines traditional Swedish techniques with some Deep Tissue massage to tackle any particular sore spots. Manual Lymphatic Drainage can also be beneficial in menopause by reducing stress and improving relaxation, which can help with hormonal balance. It can also help with other menopausal symptoms, such as water retention, mood swings, fatigue and so much more!
